Punk’d is the show where celebrities can do absolutely anything they want. It has everything from blowing trucks and boats sky-high, to a high-speed cop chase with Zac Efron, or stealing Scott Disick’s Prized Phantom sports car. If you haven’t heard of this MTV original, then you should definitely check it out. It might seem a little taboo to people, but it’s all just a bunch of Hollywood horseplay. This hidden-camera hit first aired in 2003, created by TV and movie star Ashton Kutcher, and Jason Goldberg. The show is later hosted by Ashton. By now, the show’s name is probably pretty self explanatory, but to sum it up, the show is about a different group of celebrities getting pranked each week by Ashton Kutcher, as he attempts to either make them feel guilty or embarrassed. His first prank started out with a bang when he Punk’d singer/songwriter and movie sensation Justin Timberlake. The bit that they were using to prank him was that Justin hadn’t payed back his income taxes on the new house he had just purchased. So they were staging that he was going to be evicted from his house, and they had boxed up all of his belongings. By the time he got to his house, he was very confused wondering what they had done. They explained to him that the government now owns his house, and that he had not payed off his taxes on time. He was in shock, and the whole time while they were talking to him, he looked like he was about to burst out crying, like he had been pushed to his limit. But after this, Ashton finally revealed himself by walking up to Justin’s house and saying, “What’s going on here, are you moving again?” That was the sign that he had been Punk’d. Justin was in awe; he started chasing Ashton around the yard half laughing and half in exuberant relief. After that first episode, the show was a homerun on the Television charts. Punk’d became an everyday term for people, and it seemed to be a new era in television. But sadly in 2007 after its 8th season, the show went off the air. Now after a 5-year hiatus, the show has returned in March of 2012. Kicking off with a new look at things, a new celebrity would host the show instead of Ashton hosting the show each week. So far they’ve had Justin Bieber, Bam Margera, Hayden Panettiere, Tyler The Creator, Lucy Hale, and Nick Cannon host. They’ve had bits such as: Bad Grandpa, Hit and Run, Dude Where’s My Car, and Double Crossed. I bet many people are glad to have this show back; the viewers of Punk’d definitely take pride in watching their favorite celebrities get pranked. They adore watching them being pushed to tears, or just going crazy on camera and cursing everybody out. Here’s to many more seasons of this crazed sensation.
