On October 31st at 9:45 am, preschoolers and kindergartners in costume popped around the corner of the Friends School Pre-Primary building. With shy smiles, they waved to parents and siblings – ready for their Halloween parade.

Walking to the Middle School for a Halloween performance, they searched for crunchy leaves to hop on, skipped around, and talked with classmates.

By the time they reached the Middle School, a handful were crying. Others held hands with friends while Pre-Primary teacher Melanie Avery, guitar in hand, led them through popular tunes such as The Itsy Bitsy Spider and Five Little Pumpkins.

Parents, Middle Schoolers, and teachers watched wearing bright smiles, some holding up phones to capture the moment. After their final song, the Middle School lobby was filled with applause. As the younger students left, middle schoolers prepared to start their Halloween Carnival.

Two pre-Kindergarteners waited outside for the rest of their classmates. They chattered eagerly about the evening ahead.

“I’m going to get 60 thousand-hundred pieces of candy!” said Madeline, class of 2038.

Her friend Charlotte ‘38 was less confident about her haul.

“I don’t know!” she said happily.

They then went off with the rest of Pre-Primary to meet up with younger students from Little Friends. Together, the school’s smallest students they paraded past the Lower School and went to the Admissions and Development offices, where they were given treats.

Once Pre-Primary classes returned to their homerooms, the Halloween parties began. These were held by parents with activities, snacks, and crafts provided.
