Whom do we cheer for? Basketball in Baltimore [Brief]

In a city with no professional basketball team, I started wondering, who are we actually rooting for?

Living in Baltimore, a city with no professional basketball team, I started to wonder, who are fans here actually rooting for?

So I asked around. I talked to classmates, people in different grades, even people around my neighborhood.

The answers were all over the place. Some people went with the closest teams like the Wizards, or the 76ers. Others went with teams with rich histories like the Celtics and Lakers. Some had a personal connection with a team due to family.

Cary Davis ’28 said that he likes the Washington Wizards because he is rooting for his hometown team.

I started thinking: maybe not having a hometown team is for the better. We get to pick our favorite teams for different reasons, whether it’s a favorite player, a family connection, or just because the jerseys looked cool. (I think it’s kind of weird just picking off of colors, but to each their own).

I also wonder, if Baltimore ever got a basketball team, would everyone switch to supporting the team? Or would people stick with the various team they are rooting for now?

Now the final four are in the playoffs, with Auburn, Duke, Florida, and Houston facing off. Whom do you have?
