My mother’s family on the Golden Gate Bridge shortly after they moved to America. My mom is third from the left, in the pink dress.

Alone, alienated, and unwanted. This is how my family felt when they immigrated from the Philippines 40 years ago. Born in America, I was spared these struggles. In this podcast, I learns more about my family’s past, and about the experience of being an immigrant more broadly. I also learn from my Spanish teacher Ms. Reinaldo, and my father, what it was like for them to live and study abroad. Together, their stories show that life abroad can be very rewarding – but also, at times, dangerous.
